Itinerary

1° day

Arrival at Agrigento

We recommend you to arrive at the airport (Agrigento is more or less equidistant from the airport of Palermo and Catania) by the afternoon, so that, after the autonomous transfer and check-in in accommodation, you have time for a free dinner and overnight at the Grand Hotel Mosè, a large hotel seized from the mafia and placed in judicial administration.

2° day

The Valley of the Temples and the Garden of Kolymbethra

In the morning you will visit the Valley of the Temples: the remains of ancient Akragas today have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and are evidence of the glorious past of the Greek colony. The ruins of the temples and walls are scattered in an immense archaeological park, among olive trees and almond trees and local goats .

After walking along the picturesque path in the valley, guided by the words of the audio-guide, and after free lunch (you can buy something in the refreshment areas of the park, or bring a packed breakfast), access the Kolymbethra Garden, a real green oasis within the archaeological park.

The Garden, located between the temple of Dioscuri and that of Vulcano, is an example of active protection of the territory: the FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano - has restored an ancient artificial basin dating back to the fifth century B.C. and its garden-orchard irrigated according to the techniques of the Arab tradition. The landscape is typical of the Mediterranean scrub and the Sicilian garden: citrus, almond, carob, mulberry, myrtle, prickly pears and many other fruit species make this small valley a corner of paradise.

You will also be guided in a unique experience: the visit of the hypogeum of Kolymbethra, an underground journey that will take you back about 2500 years!

The day is not over and also the dinner reserves a pleasant and tasty surprise at: Ginger People&Food you will be greeted by a warm ethnic atmosphere, and you can taste a Sicilian-Senegalese menu proposed by the talented and friendly chef Mareme.

The restaurant is the result of a project carried out by the social cooperative Al Kharub, whose objective is to create employment for people with social disadvantage including people with disabilities, migrants and refugees. The concept is clear: rediscover the common roots between Sicilian and African cuisine through culinary proposals linked to the tradition and the quality of local and seasonal products.

Night stay.
