Itinerary

1° day

Arrival in Palermo

We recommend arriving at Palermo Airport by the afternoon so that, after making your own way to the city centre and checking in at your accommodation, you’ll have some free time to start exploring Palermo’s rich selection of monuments and places of interest.

Dinner at leisure and overnight stay.

2° day

Palermo, NO mafia!

In the morning, we will visit Palermo’s historic centre on a guided walking tour lasting about three hours. Step by step, you’ll discover a city quite different from the one portrayed in films: together we will challenge common stereotypes about Sicily and Sicilians and deepen our understanding of the mafia phenomenon beyond clichés and false myths.

The meeting point is Piazza Verdi, in front of the steps of the Teatro Massimo. Crossing the picturesque Capo Market, we move on to Piazza Beati Paoli to discuss the (unfounded!) link between the secret society romanticised by writer Luigi Natoli and Cosa Nostra.

We then reach Piazza della Memoria to stop at the memorial to magistrates killed by the mafia, and continue on to the Cathedral, where we address the sensitive issue of relations between the mafia and the Church and recount the anti-mafia commitment of priests such as Father Pino Puglisi.

Along the way, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele you’ll see several shop windows displaying the logo of the critical consumption campaign “Pago chi non paga”, as a public sign of their “No” to the racket.

Finally, the tour ends at City Hall, to learn more about the connection between the mafia and institutions.

Tasting of traditional Palermo street food.

Free afternoon and dinner, overnight stay.

3° day

Palermo on own - Departure

Breakfast and check-out.

We recommend leaving in the afternoon, so you can make the most of your time to explore the city on your own: among narrow alleyways and airy squares, you’ll find a succession of fountains, churches, and historic palaces, as well as the colourful market stalls and the shops and workshops where local artisan and food traditions are still alive today.

Independent transfer to Palermo Airport and departure.
