Trapani

It is the sea that embraces the city of Trapani to be today as in the past its main source of life.

Located in the western part of Sicily the historic center of Trapani is stretched out over the sea on a peninsula with a particular shape: a sickle, which gives its name to the city (in Greek Drèpanon means sickle). Trapani is famous for its salt pans: plants used for centuries for the production of sea salt from sea water, made characteristic by the presence of windmills and the passage of migratory birds.
